Schubert: Piano Quintet in A major, “The Trout”
PRE-CONCERT @7:00 PM: A discussion of the evening’s repertoire with Trio Solisti members, violist Hsin-Yun Huang and DSO bassist Stephen Molina.
The remarkable Trio Solisti makes its Signature Series debut with a program of Haydn and Schumann trios, concluding with Schubert’s beloved Trout Quintet for piano, violin, viola, cello and string bass. The celebrated New York violist Hsin-Yun Huang and Detroit Symphony Orchestra bassist Stephen Molina join the trio for this fitting end to an extraordinary season.
Founded in 2001, Trio Solisti - violinist Maria Bachmann, cellist Alexis Pia Gerlach, and pianist Fabio Bidini - performs at major venues and series across the United States. The 2018-2019 season included their return to Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall for a three-concert series; their 2015 series there featured the complete piano chamber music by Brahms in performances hailed by The Strad for their “abundant dynamism, exceptional balance and a wholly successful grasp of the interpretive essence.” Additional recent highlights have included appearances at People’s Symphony Concerts at Town Hall in New York, The Phillips Collection in Washington, D.C., Music at Kohl Mansion in San Francisco, Friends of Chamber Music in Portland, OR, Arizona Musicfest in Scottsdale, and Ensemble Music Society of Indianapolis.
Violist Hsin-Yun Huang, a regular collaborator with Trio Solisti, has forged a career performing on international concert stages, commissioning and recording new works, and nurturing young musicians. In addition to her concerto appearances in the U.S., Europe and Asia, she has performed at the Marlboro, Santa Fe, and Spoleto USA Festivals and tours extensively with the Brentano String Quartet.
Stephen Molina has been a member of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra since 1976, where he serves as Assistant Principal Bass. He has performed at the Utah Music Festival and at the Grand Teton Music Festival in Jackson Hole, as well as with such Detroit area ensembles as the Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival and the Ann Arbor Chamber Music Festival.
